Am29BDS640H Boot Sector/Sector Block Addresses for Protection/Unprotection Sector/Sector Block Protection and Un- protection The hardware sector protection feature disables both programming and erase operations in any sector. The hardware sector unprotection feature re-enables both program and erase operations in previously protected sectors. Sector protection/unprotection can be imple- mented via two methods. (Note: For the following discussion, the term “sector” applies to both sectors and sector blocks. A sector block consists of two or more adjacent sectors that are protected or unprotected at the same time (see Table 4, “Am29BDS128H Boot Sector/Sector Block Addresses for Protection/Unprotection,” on page 16 Sector Protection The Am29BDSxxxH family features several levels of sector protection, which can disable both the program and erase operations in certain sectors or sector groups: Persistent Sector Protection A command sector protection method that replaces the old 12 V controlled protection method. Password Sector Protection A highly sophisticated protection method that requires a password before changes to certain sectors or sec- tor groups are permitted WP# Hardware Protection A write protect pin that can prevent program or erase operations in the outermost sectors. The WP# Hardware Protection feature is always avail- able, independent of the software managed protection method chosen. Selecting a Sector Protection Mode All parts default to operate in the Persistent Sector Protection mode. The customer must then choose if the Persistent or Password Protection method is most desirable. There are two one-time programmable non-volatile bits that define which sector protection method will be used.
