The sub- sequent byte or bytes, is data from/to the specified reg- ister address. See Figure 13 for an example of a detailed write sequence and Figure 14 for a read sequence. Figure 15 shows an example of two write communica- tion bursts. The first byte of the first burst sent from the serial bus master on SDI contains the destination reg- ister address (ADDRX) and an LSB of “0” indicating a write. The next byte is the data intended for the register at address ADDRX. CS is then taken high to terminate the Figure 13. Serial Port Write Sequence Figure 14. Serial Port Read Sequence transfer. The first byte of the second burst contains the destination register address (ADDRY) and an LSB indicat- ing a write. The next byte on SDI is the data intended for the register at address ADDRY. CS is then taken high to terminate the transfer. Multiple Byte Transfers More efficient data transfer of multiple bytes is accom- plished by using the LTC6953’s register address auto- increment feature as shown in Figure 16. The serial port master sends the destination register address in the first byte and its data in the second byte as before, but A6 A5 A4 A3 A2 7-BIT REGISTER ADDRESS Hi-Z MASTER–CS MASTER–SCLK MASTER–SDI LTC6953–SD0 A1 A0 0 D7 D6 D5 D4 D3 D2 D1 D0 8 BITS OF DATA 0 = WRITE 6953 F13 16 CLOCKS A6 A5 A4 A3 A2 7-BIT REGISTER ADDRESS Hi-Z Hi-Z A1 A0 1 D7 X D6 D5 D4 D3 D2 D1 D0 DX 8 BITS OF DATA 1 = READ 6953 F14 MASTER–CS MASTER–SCLK MASTER–SDI LTC6953–SDO 16 CLOCKS ADDRX + Wr Hi-Z MASTER–CS MASTER–SDI LTC6953–SDO BYTE X ADDRY + Wr BYTE Y 6953 F15 Figure 15.
