Brief Description of ULN2003


The ULN2003 is a popular and widely used Darlington transistor array IC (integrated circuit). It contains seven Darlington pairs, making it ideal for driving a variety of inductive, capacitive, and resistive loads, such as relays, solenoids, stepper motors, and LEDs. Here are some key features and specifications of the ULN2003 IC:

Darlington Pairs: The ULN2003 contains seven Darlington transistor pairs. Each pair consists of two transistors: a NPN and a PNP transistor. The Darlington configuration provides high current gain and allows the ULN2003 to switch high current loads with relatively low input current.

Input and Output: The ULN2003 has seven input pins (IN1 to IN7) and seven corresponding output pins (OUT1 to OUT7), one for each Darlington pair.

Input Current: The input pins require very little current (typically around 1.5mA) to activate the corresponding output transistors.

Clamp Diodes: Each output of the ULN2003 has an internal suppression diode (flyback diode or clamp diode) that helps protect against voltage spikes when driving inductive loads like relays and solenoids.
